About Us

Ginsage company is dedicated to protecting wild white sage. Responding to the calls from conservation organizations and indigenous protection groups, we have established a 165-acre cultivation base for white sage, providing 100% high-quality cultivated white sage at prices lower than those of wild-harvested. We aim to minimize poachers’ profit through offering a much competitive price than theirs to protect wild white sage fundamentally.

The founder Andrew, due to homesickness among his study abroad, he had experienced a considerable amount of negative emotions even to the extent of developing mild symptoms of depression. Upon the recommendation of his Indigenous classmates, he had the opportunity to participate in the white sage purification ceremony. As the smoke from the burning sage wafted over his head and face, diffusing into the surroundings, a sense of peace emanated from deep within.

To achieve this, Andrew traveled to Monterey County, a region abundant with white sage, to learn about the plant's habits and cultivation methods from Ginty, a 68-year-old Indigenous woman. He successfully experimented with cultivating one acre of white sage.

After graduating, Andrew stayed in the U.S. and founded a company, providing local employment opportunities. Eventually, he built a team of 50 people mainly responsible for the initial sales of white sage-related products, using the 165-acre cultivation base as a stable and high-quality production line. Adhering to Indigenous cultivation methods, no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used; weeds and pests are manually controlled, resulting in pure, high-quality white sage. The base offers prayers of gratitude to nature with each harvest, harvesting only twice a year to ensure better growth. After harvest, white sage is carefully selected and hand-tied to ensure its quality. Additionally, we cultivate cedar, lavender, sweetgrass, rosemary, and more, and develop products such as incense, essential oils, sachets, and candles. While ensuring quality, we use recyclable materials to reduce environmental impact. Our unique designs incorporate cultural symbols, appealing to modern aesthetics, attracting consumers, and enhancing our brand image.

Andrew recalled, “I was furious at that moment, and I yelled at them, 'Your rough harvesting could lead to the extinction of white sage!' The poachers responded indifferently, ‘Gentle harvesting is meaningless. Even if I harvest gently now, the next person might still harvest it crudely and kill it! ” Andrew was stunned and realized that inexperienced or unscrupulous harvesters have damaged and killed plants in their efforts to collect white sage, it could result in the extinction of the plant species.

At that moment, Andrew realized it was ineffective to appeal people cease using white sage coming from poaching behavior or non purchase such products. The only way to protect wild white sage is to cultivate it instead. When cultivated white sage becomes more cost-effective than wild white sage, poachers would abandon their poaching activities due to the lack of profit. In pursuit of this goal, Andrew traveled to Monterey County in where white sage grows abundantly. He had learned the cultivation methods from a local 68-year-old indigenous farmer named Ginty, and successfully cultivated one acre white sage. However, the high labor costs made the price much more expensive than wild white sage. Consequently, Andrew decided to cultivate white sage in a location with lower labor costs.

After his graduating, Andrew back to China with these authentic white sage seeds to start the concerning business. He had managed a team with 50 people following the traditional cultivation methods of the indigenous people to cultivate 165 acres of white sage on fertile red soil. They refused using chemical fertilizers and pesticides but opting for manual weeding and pest control way to instead. Finally they cultivated pure and high-quality white sage with an authentic aroma successfully.

Every time we harvest, we will perform a prayer to express gratitude for the gifts from nature and the healing properties provided by the white sage. We only harvest twice a year in order to facilitate the better growth of white sage. Unlike the poachers, we always hand-trim the branches and take care not to overly stress the plants or damage their root systems during the harvesting. After harvesting, we will also carefully select white sage to naturally sun-drying it and manually bundle it to ensure quality.

Finally Andrew cultivated white sage at a price lower than wild-harvested white sage in success. To express gratitude to his mentor Ginty, Andrew named the brand as "Ginsage." We deeply understand that the continuation of culture relies on both heritage and innovation. Therefore, we have not only developed a series of derivative products such as essential oils, incense sticks, and candles but also innovative integrated the concept of the seven chakras to create unique floral smudge sticks. Leveraging the unique geographical and climatic advantages in China, we have also cultivated cedar, lavender, yerba santa, rosemary, etc. While ensuring quality, we use recyclable materials to reduce environmental impacts. The unique design integrates cultural symbols, which not only conforms to modern aesthetic concepts, but also attracts the attention of consumers and enhances the brand image.
